Just searched for the name "Rear Admiral Arthur F. Spring"...
My late aunt knew the top-brass of the Subic Naval Base in the 1950's.
Spring was a U.S. Navy Admiral who headed Subic Naval Base in the late 1950's
and was a personal friend of my late aunt...
He died in an airplane crash together with his wife
a "CLARE MURPHY" on November 10, 1960 - less than a month after my birth...

Was his death connected to the 1957 death in another airplane crash in Cebu of
President Ramon Magsaysay of Zambales? His airplane was
"Mt. Pinatubo" - the name of the volcano in Zambales which later erupted...
Coincidence... Chance...???

(that's why he was a mah-jong playmate of an aunt - the wife of an

I have a friend who told me once that I was like Forrest Gump (movie)
I remember my aunt used to relate... The Americans asked her
what she wanted... they told her if it was humanly possible they would give
it to her!!! Can you imagine the world's Superpower people offering to give you
whatever you wish/want! I cannot understand why my aunt did not ask for
the sun, moon & stars!... She could have asked the Americans to just give us a nice place
to live in & good education & jobs in the U.S. Of course, my father had a chance to migrate
as Special Immigrant to the U.S. in the early 70's but turned this rare opportunity down.
He had visited the U.S. thrice & saw the grind/pace & lifestyle there...
He probably realized he would have ended up in a home-for-the-aged!...
Everyone in my core family EXCEPT ME had been to the U.S.A.!...
Most if not all of my gradeschool friends have migrated to the LAND OF MILK & HONEY...
But toward the end of her life, especially when the Subic naval base
was about to close, my aunt told me that the latter-day Americans
were no longer the same Americans she once knew...
That they were no longer the 'tall & good-looking/beautiful ones'
I wonder now what she meant... FAKE Americans???...
WHO are the REAL or TRUE AMERICANS - i.e. among the WHITES...
